Passion drives even a weak-willed man down the greatest of roads.
What one gives is what they are most likely to receive, ten-fold. So what do we all give this business? We put our bodies and minds on the line every other week and for what? A paycheck? To have our name in bold as we bask in the limelight? For some that is enough. But others crave more; not out of greed but out of passion. Because at the end of the day many of us do not do this for mere fortune and fame.
It is sad that some are so unfortunate.... that all they have is money.
But I am different. We are different. Even the most insignificant of us are infinite in our possibilities. When push comes to shove we put it all out on the line and pray that we can overcome the obstacle in front of us. And when we do there is a humble appreciation for ourselves and our competitors. No matter your rhyme or reason for being in this business that is how things should be. Respect is for the strong; the dignified. All else is child's play.
Yet there are those who cannot grasp this concept.
Most call them conceited, I call them juvenile. Most say that they need an ego-check, I say that they need to be put into time-out. As for the adults of this company, we will stride forward with heads held high. Whether it be a win or a loss we will prove ourselves to be a shining example of what a wrestler, nay, a human being should be.
Which leads into the competition between myself and a woman of great character; a friendly face in a company full of scowling ones. Ambition drives her and confidence has the wheel, everything in her path politely moving out of the way as she drives on by. Zahara Matisse, much like Patrick Jones, desires nothing more than to entertain.... though of course we all hunger for victory, she is not one to let that take place of her desire to put a smile on the faces of her fans.
Thus, what this business will have at Darkest Hour is a match-up of wit and charm versus silent, respectful virtue. Two people of strong spirit battling it out not to overcome or harm one another, but to test their skills and put on a show. And despite what one might think.... the Analog can do both at the drop of a hat.
. . . .
"Abracadabra!"
The shout of his excitable companion has Alec Rose lifting his head, only to get a face-full of flowers. Sputtering slightly Alec steps back brushing away the colorful plants only to see Lizzy Bowman, dressed in a long yellow blouse, dark jean-jacket and bright red leggings, smiling up at him proudly. The larger man raises one eyebrow as Lizzy brandishes what looks to be a very child-like toy wand. It has stickers on it. Stickers of dogs. Specifically chihuahuas.
-Why stickers?-
Alec types this on his smart phone, having taken it out of his black jeans. He situates his thick hoody as he awaits his friend's response.
"Because they're shiny. See? Glitter!" Lizzy shoves the wand in his face again and the flowers pop out, smacking him. With an audible grunt of pain as a petal hits his eye Alec pushes the wand away again and frowns toward Lizzy disapprovingly.
-Why are u doing this, anyway?-
"Doing what?" Lizzy bats her eyelashes with an innocent expression, causing Alec's frown to deepen as he types away on his phone.
-You know what. Why the wand?-
"I I told you who you were facing at the next show like three days ago! Did you forget already?" Lizzy questions looking shocked, and Alec sighs in frustration.
-I kno who my opponent is that is not what Im talking about! I am not doing this Liz-
Lizzy juts out her lower lip in an obvious pout, lowering the arm that holds her wand. She glances behind Alec at the large glass building then returns her attention to him. "I know it's an obvious pot-shot at Zahara but I mean you're facing a magician. I want to make sure we're prepared for that!"
-I think we'll be okay. She doesnt seem the type to throw around magic tricks in a serious fight. At least I believe she has enough respect not to do so.-
"And if she does?"
-What she gives she will receive. Ive a few tricks up my own sleeve-
Alec smirks, using his free hand to lean over and reach behind Lizzy's ear. He pulls back and in his hand is... an aphid. Lizzy shrieks in terror and jumps away, as Rose is now doubled over in silent laughter at the look on her face. He stops abruptly as Bowman turns and storms past him, toward the building. A bit amused Alec follows with a grin and gently taps her shoulder. Lizzy keeps walking but warily glances back, in time to see him holding a thornless rose out to her. He also holds up his phone...
-I apologize. Couldnt resist-
Lizzy falls silent for a moment, holding the rose in her hands and putting it to her nose. She breathes in the gentle aroma then smiles toward him. "You're forgiven."
-Good. Shall we?- He holds out an arm which Lizzy happily takes as the two head into Sheffield's own Winter Garden. The glass building is basically a huge greenhouse, housing over two thousand plants. They both had wanted to experience Sheffield, England (the city in which VOW is hosting its pay-per-view) itself, and this location had been said to be a local favorite. Thus the two decided to grace the building with their presence.
Now heading in, Lizzy is first to speak again. "So are you going to do one of those lil video log things this time? I know last time got you pretty pumped for the match against Patrick and you kinda tore him a new a-"
Alec awkwardly puts a hand up, interrupting Lizzy as they walk pack a group of kids excitedly chatting about certain plants and how poisonous they are. The two young adults watch the kids walk by, laughing about symptoms of the poison, and Lizzy cringes, "What's wrong with people nowadays..."
-Violence is a fetish. Others pain becomes humor as they would rather laugh than imagine themselves in that position.-
Lizzy reads this off of Alec's phone and frowns slightly. "That's a morbid thought..."
-Indeed it is. Want 2 go 2 the cafe now?-
"Ooh! Sure I could go for a coffee! We'll explore this place after though, right? It's soo pretty!"
-Well then you fit right in here-
Lizzy glances at the message, then does a double-take. Her mocha cheeks glow slightly red as the two head into the Welcome Center area, which holds information about the establishment as well as a small cafe with light refreshments. Alec grabs a couple of coffees, one black and the other light and sugary, as well as a couple of bagels. Heading over to the table Lizzy has picked out, Rose drops down onto the chair across from her and smiles gently toward her. This results in that cherry coloring to rise back up to her cheeks again as she clears her throat and holds her hand out, quickly changing the subject.
"Give me your phone. I'm gonna take a video of you as you uh 'talk', since you dont have the laptop with you."
-I could just type one out?- Alec suggests, holding the phone toward her to read. Instead, she grabs it and shakes her head dismissively.
"No way, the videos are way cooler. Not to mention we want your pretty face in it. The expressions give it a more genuine feel." Lizzy nods seriously as she messes with his phone, somehow knowing the passcode to it, which makes Alec frown impatiently. He looks around in thought, grabbing the black coffee.... and pushing it toward his companion. He then takes hold of the sugary beverage and takes a drink of it, enjoying the taste as Lizzy absent-mindedly shoves a piece of her bagel into her mouth. After a moment or two, she faces the camera of Alec's phone toward him, which he responds to by confusedly scratching his cheek. Lizzy frowns now.
"Well?"
Rose just stares at the woman until finally he realizes what she wants him to do. Lizzy is always one to test her friend. Even if it's the smallest of things, she wants to make sure he can think fast in any situation. And this situation is no different. So Alec grabs a few napkins from nearby and pulls them toward him, pulling a pen from his pocket (as you never know when you may need to write a check). The Analog looks at Lizzy in preparation and the young woman smiles and presses play. The background noise of people chatting away doesn't bother Alec as he calmly scribbles on the first napkin.
-Hello one and all. Hopefully you can read my chicken-scratch.-
Lizzy giggles and Alec shakes his head at her before continuing on the second napkin, eyes on the camera of his phone as he soon lifts it up.
--As you may be aware, I have been successful here in VOW. At points it may have been luck, but I know for a fact that I put forth what I could when I could. And that all resulted in a multitude of victories.-
Alec allows that to sink in as he continues with a thoughtful look, scribbling on the third napkin. Already he isn't fond of this idea of Lizzy's. It is slow. And he is not used to not utilizing technology in some form to 'speak', especially to an opponent. At the very least he hopes that he can express his reverence for the multi-talented Zahara.
--But this time is so very different. The past few fights have been against those who I could confidently say that I had a chance against. I could call out potential mistakes and I could make assumptions on what would be done in the ring. I will not say that they were easy. But the challenge did not meet what this next one will.-
"Basically he's against a freaking magician at Darkest Hour!" Lizzy sounds off suddenly, breaking what is mostly silence on the video feed. Rose's lips move upward a bit as she continues, "We don't know what you might do in that ring, Miss Matisse but Alec is very good at reading people and he can take whatever you throw his w-"
Rose lifts a hand, staring at Lizzy pointedly as she has been waving her arms dramatically and making the camera go wild. She sheepishly steadies her hold and points it toward Alec, who decides to cut this short. Not out of disrespect but because he knows his handwriting is probably an eyesore for all those taking the time to 'read' this video.
--Zahara, I will write to you directly here before Liz and I head off to sight-see. Do not take this nonsense way of communicating as me not taking you seriously. First off, you are a good person. I can see it in the way you talk and the things you do. More importantly, I acknowledge your talent even as a newer competitor and despite this pretty expressionless face of mine I-
He runs out of room on that napkin and awkwardly grabs another, writing frantically on it as he purses his lips in annoyance. This is definitely not the best way to do things. After a moment of thinking he finally finishes his thought as he glances toward his bagel. Alec is a man of little words, with a big appetite and short attention span when hungry. And this much is obvious as he nods toward Lizzy to signal this being his last note....
--I am excited for this fight. I am excited to see what you can do. And I am excited to go toe-to-toe with someone of high moral standing--someone worthy of my respect and admiration. No matter how this bout of ours goes, I wish you the best of luck and look forward to shaking your hand. We will make our match at Darkest Hour one to remember. That is a promise.-
