Casket Match for the I4NI Championship
Heath Williams vs. Tyron Bickerton (c)
Heath Williams vs. Tyron Bickerton (c)
As soon as we switch to the capacity crowd, another camera takes focus, centered on the wooden casket sitting in between the ramp and ringside areas. They pan around, catching every square inch on film.
Axel Reid: Well... here it comes, the final showdown! Two former best friends are about to tear each other apart for the I4NI Championship!
Ruby Parvati: No, you’ve got it all wrong, Reid! Williams is the only one who’ll be torn apart!
Axel Reid: I guess we’ll see about that but knowing Heath, The Hardcore Hero will refuse to go down without a fight!
This leads to an inset video package hyping up the contest, showing the brotherhood Heath and Tyron had before everything went sour and vicious. After the package concludes, “Little Pills” by Devilskin begins and the audience roars in unison, as Heath Williams appears from behind the curtain, his warhammer noticeably not with him. He marches down the ramp, taking turns between high fiving the front row crowd on the left and right. He approaches the ring and rolls in underneath the bottom rope before raising both fists with a war cry.
Ruby Parvati: That war cry will be more of a painful scream in due time.
Afterwards, the opening riff of “Reminded” by Drowning Pool plays, and the fans boo intensely as Tyron Bickerton emerges from the curtain. With the I4NI Title belt slung over his shoulder, he looks out over the sea of people before slowly striding down the entrance ramp - he noticeably avoids eye contact with his former buddy.
Ruby Parvati: Here comes my pick to win, Axel! He’s been on a roll!
Axel Reid: Rumour has it that this will be Tyron’s final match here in VoW. What does that mean for the I4NI Championship if he were to win?
Ruby Parvati: It’d remain his forever, as it should!
Tyron climbs into the ring, finally locking eyes with his rival. His theme fades as the two stand three feet from each other - the bell sounds.
Jerry Heisenberg: Ladies and gentlemen, the following contest... is a CASKET MATCH... and it is for the I4NI CHAMPIONSHIP!!! The only way to win this match is to place your opponent inside the casket and shut the lid!
The fans cheer.
Jerry Heisenberg: Introducing first, the challenger… hailing from Auckland, New Zealand... weighing in at 215 pounds… He is the "Hardcore Hero"… HEATH WILLIAMS!!!
Williams raises a single fist to the sky to a huge pop, not taking his eyes off Bickerton. His fist lowers to his side.
Jerry Heisenberg: And his opponent… currently hailing from Saint City.... weighing in at 256 pounds… He is the reigning I4NI Champion… TYRON BICKERTON!!!
Right on cue, Bickerton raises his title high with a smug look on his face, taunting Williams with the prize that was once his. He hands it over to the referee as Heisenberg vacates the ring.
Axel Reid: This is it, fans… The final encounter.
DING DING DING!
Ruby Parvati: And it starts!
Wasting no time, Heath’s on Tyron in a split second with a fierce tackle to the canvas before a follow-up of not just one, not just two but five thunderous right fists to the champions cheek. Tyron lifts both forearms, attempting the block but with tactical thinking, Heath throws a devastating right hook straight into Tyron’s gut, briefly winding him. Heath stands and runs over to the corner, climbing the turnbuckle and immediately throwing himself through the air, landing a powerful elbow drop.
Axel Reid: Heath’s on fire tonight, ladies and gentlemen!
Ruby Parvati: Yeah well...Tyron’s on water tonight and water puts fire out. So yeah.
Axel Reid: The first part of that made no sense whatsoever.
Ruby Parvati: Shut up Reid. Yes it did. You don’t even know.
Heath goes over to the ropes and rolls to the outside area, going over to the casket and pulling it in closer to the apron. He opens the lid and slides back into the ring, where Tyron’s beginning to stir. Heath sends two strong kicks into his opponents abdomen before grabbing him by the ankles and yanking him towards the open casket.
Axel Reid: Could the first ever casket match in VoW history come to an early close?!
Ruby Parvati: No way! Get it together, Tyron! You’ve got this!
Bickerton’s quick to power out, using his leg strength to kick Williams off - the final desperate kick catching him square in the jaw. As Williams staggers back, Bickerton gets to his feet and mows him down with a vicious clothesline - not unlike the one that ignited this feud many months ago.
Bickerton returns the favour with two hard stomps, shouting profanities at his rival before delivering a hard third. He turns to the crowd with arms spread, sarcastically shouting “HARDCORE HERO, HUH?!”, eliciting a fair share of boos as he heads to the corner; he uncharacteristically begins ascending the turnbuckle.
Ruby Parvati: Where's Tyron going?
Axel Reid: We don't see this out of Bickerton often… He's climbing to the top! Maybe he's looking to end this early with a senton?
Ruby Parvati: Ooh, I hope so! Williams is gonna be squished like a little bug!
Axel Reid: It certainly is a sign of disrespect, keep in mind that this was part of The Requiem’s finishing team maneuver.
Tyron goes flying through the air with the diving senton, proving that even men of his size and stature can in fact, defy gravity. However, the moment it’s about to hit, Heath rolls backwards and gets out of harm's way with Tyron hitting the mat with a loud thud. Tyron arches his back in pain with a cringe to match, as Heath watches on with a smirk.
Ruby Parvati: That smug bastard! How dare he!
Axel Reid: All’s fair in love and war, Ruby!
Heath goes over and kicks Tyron a few times in the face, before scaling the same turnbuckle the juggernaut had just moments prior. He looks down at Tyron and yells “THIS WHAT YOU WERE TRYING TO DO?!” before performing his own diving senton, the difference between the two being that this one actually connects.
Ruby Parvati: HE JUST STOLE TYRON’S MOVE!
Axel Reid: Actually, Ruby, Heath’s been known to use the diving senton on occasion too. Besides, it’s not like Tyron owns the rights to the move or anything. That’d be ludicrous.
Ruby Parvati: I think he SHOULD buy the rights to the move, along with ALL of the other moves in his set! That way little weasels like Williams can’t steal them without having to pay a hefty fine!
Axel Reid: Something tells me Heath wouldn’t even care about having to pay such a fine...then again, he probably just wouldn’t even pay it!
Once again, Heath starts pulling Tyron towards the casket; he gets the lid open, but for some reason, the crowd’s reaction is negative. It's soon revealed that they're booing because Mimi has come dashing down the ramp, her hair tied up with a ribbon, wielding a kendo stick. She slides into the ring undetected, and as her dad is being placed into the casket, she uses the kendo stick to deal a vicious low blow to Heath Williams.
Axel Reid: Oh, come on! Not this again! Can't Tyron win a match fairly?
Williams falls to the mat, clutching his jewels as Bickerton crawls out of the casket. Mimi removes the ribbon from her hair, placing Williams in a crossface position with a slight twist - she uses the ribbon to strangle Williams.
Axel Reid: She's choking him out! Come on, it can't end this way!
Ruby Parvati: Are you telling me a high-profile title match is gonna end because the challenger will be choked out by a teenage girl with a pretty pink ribbon? You know, I'm cool with that.
Axel Reid: You are?!
Ruby Parvati: Yeah! As long as that freak doesn't leave here with that title, I'm happy!
Bickerton taunts Williams as he's slipping out of consciousness - despite it being highly unnecessary, he delivers closed fists to Heath's forehead whilst Mimi strangles him. The shots bust him open and blood pours from the wound, drenching Mimi’s hands, changing the ribbon from pink to red. The crowd boos and Tyron turns away from the scene to taunt them - Heath’s son, Ryan, storms the ring.
Axel Reid: Wait a minute! It's Ryan! Ryan’s here to help his dad!
Ruby Parvati: Security! Get him outta there! The ring is no place for children!
Axel Reid: What about Mimi? She's in there!
Ruby Parvati: She's a princess, Axel! Whole different ball game.
Ryan slides in and grabs a handful of Mimi’s hair, yanking her off as his father passes out. Tyron turns to see what's going on, and aggressively grabs Ryan by the throat - the unsettling sight becomes mortifying as he places the child in a Powerbomb position.
Axel Reid: Oh my god, NO! Don’t do this, Tyron! If you have a heart, you won't do this!!
Tyron taunts the 12-year-old with a loud, obnoxious cackle, a sudden look of terrified realization appearing on Ryan’s face. He swiftly reaches into his pocket and pulls out a hacky-sack, before launching it towards Heath’s face. It connects and The Hardcore Hero comes to, glancing up and quickly becoming aware of the situation. He pushes to his feet and stealthily stalks Tyron before wrapping his arms around his head and following up by wrapping his legs around the waist, pulling him down to the canvas as a result of a sleeper hold. Ryan slips out from the equation and takes a few steps back to count his feathers.
Mimi comes back to her father’s aid and once again, wraps the ribbon around Heath’s throat and pulls as hard as she can. Ryan looks over and joins in, locking Mimi in a legs-to-head submission hold.
Ruby Parvati: What the hell is this?! It’s like one giant human chain!
Axel Reid: It’s all because of Mimi! She won’t leave this alone!
Ruby Parvati: Well, nor will Ryan. Don’t be so bias.
Axel Reid: Ryan’s only getting involved because Mimi is!
Two members of security come running down the ramp before sliding into the ring. One goes for Ryan and tears his grip away from Mimi with ease, the second tries to pry Mimi away from Heath but this proves to be somewhat tougher as Mimi kicks and screams like the little diva she is. Eventually, both members of security have the children where they want them and easily drag them back down the ramp.
Ruby Parvati: No! Bring Mimi back!
Axel Reid: If Ryan’s not allowed out here then nor is Mimi!
Now with no distractions, Heath continues to apply the pressure, Tyron trying to wiggle his way out of it but it’s no use. Tyron clearly starts to understand that there’s no easy way out of this, so using an immense amount of strength, he places both feet firmly against the mat and rises, Heath still attached. Tyron wraps his arms around each of Heath’s legs before taking a leap and landing back first into the canvas, Heath forced to let go of the sleeper hold immediately.
Coughing and spluttering while holding his throat, Bickerton staggers back to his feet, holding onto the top rope to recover. Williams uses the ropes on the opposite side of the ring to stand, and the two combatants lock eyes with each other - both men charge with fists flying, mercilessly pummeling each other. Williams connects with a sharp elbow to the side of Bickerton’s head, who retaliates with a stiff kick to the gut - with Heath bent over in pain, Bickerton clobbers him across the back with a hard shot. He then whips him across the ring, knocking him down with a skull-rattling superkick that echoes throughout the Norfolk Scope.
Bickerton stumbles over to the casket, opening the lid before turning back to Williams. He drags his motionless body into the casket and places one hand firmly on the open lid, taking his time as he mocks his opponent. It proves to be a mistake - Williams was just playing possum - he connects with a stiff right hand to the face of Bickerton. He climbs out from the casket in pursuit of the champion.
Axel Reid: Tyron could’ve had this match one, if he didn’t stop to gloat. Then again, I’m not sure Heath Williams is one to stay down that easily.
Ruby Parvati: What a coincidence! When I see Heath’s face, my lunch doesn’t stay down, either! Let’s start calling him the Human Ipecac!
Axel Reid: Oh, come off it!
Heath takes Tyron’s left hand and places it on the edge of the casket, before taking the lid and slamming it down straight on the I4NI Champions fingers. Tyron shouts in pain, pulling his fingers from underneath the lid and clasping them. Heath grabs Tyron by the back of the head and slams him face first against the lid, Tyron now clearly seeing an abundance of stars. Heath does this several more times, before rolling the juggernaut on top of the casket and bringing down a few stiff lefts and rights.
Ruby Parvati: Doesn’t that moron realize he has to put Tyron IN the casket to actually win?
Axel Reid: Something tells me Heath doesn’t have the victory in mind at this present moment…
Heath makes way over to the apron and pulls up the flap, pulling out a steel chair. He places it on Tyron’s stomach before going and grabbing two more, these are positioned on Tyron’s legs and face respectively. The Dark Hawk’s not finished there though, as he reaches under the ring one final time, now pulling out a sturdy ladder.
Ruby Parvati: Uh oh…
The Hardcore Hero sets up the ladder and begins a climb, reaching the top in record breaking time. He carefully balances himself on the top rung and stares down at Tyron with a grin, the fans on their feet awaiting the high risk maneuver that’s about to be performed. With a huge diving splash, Heath collides with Tyron, the lid of the casket breaking in the process.
Axel Reid: OH MY GOD! HE BROKE THE CASKET! HE BROKE THE FREAKIN’ CASKET!
Ruby Parvati: That idiot! How’s anyone gonna win this thing now?!
Heath slides off the now seemingly completely unconscious Tyron and takes a knee, clutching his ribs, that one obviously took it out of him. He raises his right arm and makes a gesture typically used to call somebody over. Confusion circulates throughout the entire arena, whispers without audible words are spoken and frowns are plastered across just about everyone’s faces. To answer everyone’s questions, former wrestler Mikey Metal comes out from behind the curtain pushing along a second but far more fragile looking casket.
Axel Reid: That’s Mikey Metal! Known formally as Mike Reinech! He was in one of the greatest tag teams the wrestling industry has ever seen, Punk Metal!
Ruby Parvati: I don’t care for his stupid backstory! Why the hell is he out there and why the hell is all this happening?!
Mike drops the casket off beside the other one before making way to the backstage area, however not before high fiving a few of the older fans reaching out to him.
Axel Reid: Hey! I want a high five…I had like five Punk Metal posters as a kid...plus a keychain - and a towel!
Heath uses the apron as leverage to get to his feet. With a struggle, he wraps an arm around Tyron’s waist and pulls, using all of his strength to lift the much bigger man out of the broken casket and to the ground. Tyron drops against the side of the ring as Heath opens the lid of the new casket, a series of strange markings scribbled across the inside.
Axel Reid: I just figured it out…
Ruby Parvati: Figured what out?
Axel Reid: Heath planned this from the get-go...the first casket was just a distraction! He never had any intentions of winning the match with that one! This new casket is meant to contain the curse of brotherhood, hence the strange markings on the inside!
Ruby Parvati: What?! That’s crazy! There’s no such thing as the god damn curse of brotherhood!
Axel Reid: Tell that to Heath, Ruby!
As Williams lifts Bickerton to his feet, he gets his eyes raked for his efforts. Temporarily blinded, Williams staggers back and bumps into the casket - Bickerton’s quick to follow up on his cheap tactic, lifting his smaller opponent up onto the apron. He climbs up along with him, placing him in position for the Buster Breaker.
Axel Reid: Oh my god… He’s not going to hit the Buster Breaker on the ring apron, is he?!
Ruby Parvati: That’s the way, Tyron! Snap his damn neck!
Williams manages to slip out, landing on his feet - he swiftly reaches for one of the three steel chairs and uses it to smack Bickerton as hard as he can in the back of the head!
Ruby Parvati: NO!
Bickerton flops down face-first, right into the open casket!!!
Axel Reid: TYRON IS IN THE CASKET!
Without missing a beat, Williams slams the lid shut and jumps on top of the casket for good measure!
Axel Reid: AND HEATH SHUTS THE LID!
DING DING DING!!!
The bell sounds and the audience comes unglued as "Little Pills" plays.
Jerry Heisenberg: The winner of this match... and THE NEW I4NI CHAMPION… HEATH WILLIAMS!!!
Axel Reid: He did it! Heath Williams is a two-time I4NI Champion!
Ruby Parvati: NO! This is terrible, Axel! I can’t believe this is happening again!
Axel Reid: Tyron tried everything he could, including using his daughter to score an easy victory, but it wasn’t enough! And not only that, the curse of the brotherhood has been broken!
Heath races into the ring, raising his arms triumphantly. He staggers over to Heisenberg, who hands him the I4NI Championship. He jumps up onto the turnbuckle and lifts it high above his head. Ryan and Mike come racing down to the ring, giving him a round of applause as the crowd scream and yell in delight. Heath gives Ryan a hug before instructing him to grab a microphone. His son complies and gets one, before coming back and giving it to his dad. Heath raises it to his lips, still clearly struggling for breath.
Heath Williams: Looks like...it’s finally over...the curse of brotherhood, has been laid to rest...that means I no longer have to delve into the world of sensory deprivation. My job here, is almost done.
Heath looks over at the casket.
Heath Williams: But there’s still one last thing I must do.
Heath hands the microphone to Ryan and the championship to Mike, before climbing out of the ring and going to the end of the casket. He starts pushing it up the ramp and Ryan and Mike follow close behind. They go passed the curtain to the backstage area where cameras start to follow too. As they pass through the locker room, multiple other VoW starts watch on in confusion, scratches to the back of the head from many of them. Eventually, they reach the parking lot, where a big cargo truck awaits. Heath smacks the side of the truck and out come two workers.
Heath Williams: Load him up, boys.
The back of the truck opens and the two workers each take a side of the casket before loading it into the back. Heath gives them a few crispy greens from his wallet and they get back into the truck’s cab. It drives off, leaving the arena. Ryan tugs on his dad’s arm, leaning it.
Ryan Gallagher: Say, where are they taking him, dad?
Heath Williams: Let’s just say, Sea World was in need of a new orca.
As Heath continues smiling triumphantly, the scene fades to black, leading to another prepared commercial.
