South Beach, Miami, Florida
December 10th, 2014
I walked into the club, one of the many in South Beach, to the latest in pop music blaring throughout the entire building. The place was packed. I glanced around noticing people of all cultures, drinks in hand, enjoying the night. My mood was one of hope. Earlier today I had expressed interest in professional wrestling, much to my surprise, I was courted by two companies almost immediately. Me. The girl who has never even been to a wrestling show in her entire life. One more than the other seemed perfect for me, I mean one of the guys on the roster was already willing to train me. Throughout the day I had been communicating via twitter to one of the staff members at VOW. I caught myself momentarily peeking at my Samsung Galaxy, but for now I tucked it away. For once, I was out, and it wasn't for work purposes.
Normally, I'd be hosting parties at the clubs. Its how I get paid. Tonight wasn't one of those nights. Tonight was about relaxing, besides, I have a business meeting in the morning with a high profile client who potentially could hire me to plan an event for her.
As I shuffled through the packed dance area of the club, I noticed the eyes beating into me. Every time I glanced up at a face, I could see the smile from the other club-goers. I was dressed in Michael Kors from head to toe. The black dressed tugged at my sides tightly, exposing the curves I was proud of. The open toe heels drew in eyes and probably jealousy from some of the less expensive dressed women around me.
I made my way to the bartender finally, grabbing a seat at a stool.
"Cranberry on the rocks please", I requested, flashing a smile at the handsome bartender.
"Comin' right up beautiful", the response was a welcome one to my ears, I was ready to unwind. Moments later the drink was slid my way. I dropped an extra 5 dollars down, standing up, sipping my drink. I made my way back to the dancefloor, moving to the music casually, besides, I couldn't spill this on my Michael Kors clutch.
"Yo whats good mami?". I looked to my left, catching the Hispanic man looking me up and down, smile on his face with that familiar glaze in his eyes from having a few more drinks than I have. I was used to this though. I work in clubs for a living.
"This drink is pretty good. So is the music, the dj is rockin!" I exclaimed excitedly. I wasn't in the mood to be hit on, but I wasn't about to be rude either. That's not who I am.
"He was playin' some bullshit earlier, he's cool now though. You got a name?" the manner he asked was a friendly one.
"Keisha. Keisha Britely."
"Word, you have beautiful eyes mami. I could get lost in 'em." the compliment was cute, but this wasn't what I wanted. An awkward smile and a big sip of my drink was in order.
"Thanks. What about you, got a name yourself?"
"I'm Javier. My boys are right over there." Javier would point to the bar where 3 other men were standing, laughing at one thing or another.
"So, are you here often? I haven't seen you around before." As I tried to make casual conversation, my phone went off. Yes. Saved.
"Could you excuse me for a second please?" I asked as Javier nodded, turning his attention to the next pretty face in his path. I made my way through the crowd again, grabbing a seat at a table just way from the dancefloor. I pulled my Galaxy phone back out, tapping the screen to light it up. A quick swipe later and I saw I had a twitter alert. A DM.
"Who is DM'ing me now yo..." As I clicked the message tab, I felt my heart flutter. It was from VOW. Again. I read the message out loud even though nobody else could hear it due to the music playing.
"Keisha, we would like to meet up with you at the show you will be attending Monday. Ian Windermear has informed us that he's willing to help train you. With his commitment, we offer one as well. We would like to discuss the details in person, but we hope we can welcome you to the VOW family. Please get in touch at your earliest convenience."
I cupped my mouth. I couldn't believe it. This could NOT be really happening. This could change my life forever in so many ways. I let out a shriek that the people near me could hear even over top of the music. A few awkward stares in my direction was my cue to stand up and make a bee-line straight for the ladies room. I entered a stall, and quickly went through my contacts finding 'Mom'. I swiped the screen. My heart beat what felt like a million beats before she picked up.
"Hey Keish. It's late sweetheart, is everything okay?"
"MOM! You won't believe what happened..." I was about to tell her the news that could change my life...
