Joanna Thade Vs. Kincaid
Jerry Heisenberg: Our next match is a one-on-one encounter set for one fall!
Jerry's voice is heard as we return from commercial to a view of the arena. Suddenly, a droning, distorted opening chord comes over the speakers in the arena and the lights go dark. The grinding guitar of Deftones "Passenger" kicks to life and the audience rises, recognizing the familiar music of Kincaid. A spotlight follows him as he emerges from the right side of the stage, with his head down and his wife following close behind.
Jerry Heisenberg: Making his way to the ring, accompanied by Alyssa, from Bearing, Alberta and weighing in at 275 pounds...KINCAID!
Alyssa Kincaid moves to her husband's side and the two of them walk down to the ring, still under the spotlight. She gives him some encouraging words, and he acknowledges them with the slightest of nods. He waits at the bottom of the steps, bouncing up and down on his toes to warm up while she walks up in front of him to the apron. He follows her up and she takes a seat on the ropes to lower them to let him in. He moves to the middle of the ring while she takes up position at ringside. He closes his eyes as the house lights come back up, taking a deep breath and moving back to the corner to await the bell.
Axel Reid: Kincaid has been utterly intense since his return, Ruby. At Double Jeopardy he showed just how serious he was about gaining another shot at the Zero Gravity Championship with a win over Desmond Knight.
Ruby Parvati: He bled for that win, Axel. Twice. And if he's not careful he'll end up doing the same tonight.
Axel Reid: You may well be right, especially considering his opponent. But the man's on the right track to go far here in VoW in my eyes.
Jerry Heisenberg: And introducing his opponent...accompanied to the ring by Emma Carlisle, from the Other Side of Sanity and weighing in at 145 pounds...the Warchild...JOANNA THADE!
The arena darkens while fog wafts up from beneath the stage, lights going off with a strobe effect meant to resemble lightning as the sound of thunder rumbles through the speakers. The sounds go silent after a few moments before the lights come up with a blue tint, a spotlight shining down on two kneeling figures who rises from within the fog at the top of the ramp moments before "The Watcher" by Xandria starts.
"Hate! Greed! The world turns to ashes!
War! Creed! No sign from Heaven!
Burn! Bleed! All just for nothing!"
One of the two, throwing back her hood and thus revealing the skull mask beneath, is Emma Carlisle. She lifts her cane into the air as the opening chorus gives way to a more slightly more subdued, foreboding tune. At her side is Joanna Thade, wielding her runed warhammer, Hephty. She surveys the crowd like a feral hellcat choosing its prey. Coming up behind them are Eleanor Merriweather, who stands on Emma's side and Opeare Sheilds, who stands with Joanna. The foursome walks purposefully down to the ring, Emma and Joanna in front, Doll and Opeare in their wake. None pay any heed to the reaching hands and the reactions negative or otherwise hurled in their direction, stopping and staring into the ring as they arrive at the apron.
"See the clouds in the sky still burning
Watch me counting the days in the rain
White eiderdown falls to the ground
Cover all that has been with death."
Ruby Parvati: The Chaossworn have arrived. Joanna was all kinds of evil in her address to Kincaid this past week. Some say she crossed a line or two, in fact.
Axel Reid: When don't either of these women crossed a line? Joanna sounded like she knew what she was getting into, but you just don't realize how imposing a man like Kincaid is until you're standing in front of him.
Ruby Parvati: She's no stranger to fighting bigger, stronger opponents, Axel. And she's clever enough to take him off his game.
Emma pulls herself up onto the apron and enters the ring, casting aside her cloak as she walks to the center as Joanna runs and slides in under the bottom rope. Peeling off the mask, the Nihilist glares into the camera before tilting her head back and shrieking loudly. More of the thunder and strobe lighting erupts at this, briefly, before she lowers her head again. Joanna moves to take a knee before her, the maul portion of Hephty pressed to the mat while Emma places a black-nailed hand on her partner's shoulder, the Warchild affecting a delightedly malicious smile and shrieking laughter to match her partner's deafening wail. "The Watcher" fades out slowly and Joanna backs into one corner, she and Emma unwillingly handing their armament to their respective seconds who remain outside the ring in The Warchild's corner. Joanna paces hungrily as Emma exits the ring as they await the bell to single Joanna's next "play time". Except...Emma doesn't stay in her partner's corner but instead heads over to the announce table.
Ruby Parvati: Well, well...looks like we have company.
Axel looks plenty concerned as Emma walks around to Ruby's side of the table and picks up the spare headset, putting it on before taking a seat. Ruby, however, is naturally very welcoming.
Ruby Parvati: Death herself. Welcome to the best seat in the house.
Emma Carlisle: Pleasure.
Briefly clasping Ruby's offered hand, something which causes a peculiar shiver to pass through that half of the announce team, Emma merely nods curtly at Axel before taking a seat.
Axel Reid: What, um, brings you to our part of the arena tonight?
Emma Carlisle: As Ruby stated, an excellent vantage point to watch my dear War in action.
DING! DING! DING!
The referee calls for the bell and we're off quickly with a lock-up in the middle of the ring. It takes Kincaid little time to force Joanna back into the turnbuckles, bending her back a bit before breaking the hold clean. Joanna takes a swipe at him but Kincaid is out of the way before it lands, leaving the Warchild grinning slightly. She shoots a look in Alyssa's direction, getting a glare in response, then charges Kincaid, locking up with him again. She holds her ground a bit longer this time, but is soon on her back when Kincaid shoves her away. Joanna bounds to her feet again and fakes a lock-up before going behind Kincaid, staying out of his grip and delivering a few forearms to his back. He swings around with a big elbow. The Warchild takes to throwing kicks to the legs and ribs, avoiding Kincaid's heavy shots.
Landing a spinning back kick, Joanna takes off running for the ropes, getting some momentum yet running right into a big Kincaid clothesline before she can make use of it. The impact sends her for a flip before landing her hard on the canvas!
Axel Reid: Mother of God! Kincaid almost took her head off with that hit!
Ruby Parvati: Like running into an oiled-up Mack truck on the highway.
Kincaid pulls Joanna to her feet as she throws wild punches at his midsection. The assault is for naught when Kincaid delivers a knee to her gut, followed by a snapmare that flips Joanna into a seated position. She comes out of her stupor just in time to see the monster running at her, laying back as his boot goes sailing through where her head just was. Kipping up to her feet, she whirls on him, leaping as Kincaid rushes at her for a Thesz press. Except...the 275-pounder catches her in mid-air shaking his head. Refusing to give up on the idea, Joanna grabs a handful of his hair and starts delivering right hands with cackling glee until Kincaid uses his raw power to drape her over his shoulder and powerslam her to the mat, rolling right into a cover.
ONE...
TWO...
Ruby Parvati: Pretty insistent kick-out from Joanna. It looked from here like she got the wind knocked out of her.
Emma Carlisle: She's full of surprises. People already think they know what she's capable of but she's only been toying with our adversaries up to this point.
Axel Reid: Not to be rude, Miss Carlisle, but a lot of people make that claim.
Ruby Parvati: Really, Axel?
Axel Reid: I'm just saying!
Emma Carlisle: We're not women given to trumpeting ourselves grandly, spreading lies and arrogance in our wake. If we say something, you can mark those words.
The only marking going on at this point is coming from the fans cheering Kincaid on and the lumps that are no doubt forming on Joanna's noggin. She's sent hard into the corner again and soon after sandwiched between the massive Kincaid and the padded steel. She slumps into the corner a bit when he steps back, then flashes him a grin and audibly dares him to do it again. Kincaid, naturally, looks at the Warchild like she's lost her damn mind. He has no qualms, however, about trying to smash her into peanut butter with another splash. Joanna reels, staggering out of the corner from the second impact and walking right into a large right hand that clamps around her throat.
Axel Reid: Going up?
Hoisting the woman half his size up high into the air, Kincaid holds her for a few moments...or to be more accurate, one moment too long. Her pounding on his arm and a kick that fetches him at chest-level causes Kincaid to drop the Warchild to the mat. She lands on her feet but buckles slightly, barely able to avoid a spinning clothesline before she lands a few kicks to the back of Kincaid's previously-injured knee. The big man staggers forward a step but only slightly. Still, Joanna takes that opportunity to chop block the same leg, taking Kincaid down to a knee. Grabbing him by the arm, Joanna puts her boot to his jaw and falls back, the recoiling impact sending Kincaid to the mat!
Ruby Parvati: And big hoss goes down to the Jaw Dropper.
Emma Carlisle: That's it, Jo-Dear...good show.
Axel Reid: Joanna with the pin attempt!
ONE...
TW-
Kincaid all but throws Joanna off him, the woman landing on her hands and knees with a twisted smile. She pushes some blue hair out of her face and stalks the 275-pounder from out of his line of sight. On the outside, Alyssa is pounding on the canvas, trying to warn her husband about his opponent. Shaking off the mandible-rattling jawbreaker from Thade, Kincaid gets to his feet and turns in time to catch a spear to the midsection. The impact sends him into the corner but doesn't take him down. Joanna, throwing caution to the wind, starts throwing straight right hands at her larger opponent.
Axel Reid: Now this just isn't a good idea on any level!
Emma Carlisle: And why is that, Axel?
Axel Reid: Men his own size think twice before throwing punches with Kincaid!
Emma Carlisle: And?
Axel Reid: What 'and'?! There's no 'and'!
Ruby Parvati: Maybe you should just watch and learn, Axel.
Without question, the punches are getting to Kincaid. At first he's covering up but then he starts answering in kind. His punches send Joanna reeling but she keeps on coming like some over-amped Energizer bunny, landing two punches to every one of Kincaid's, yet still taking the brunt of the damage. Some disbelief starts to show on the big man's face, more so when he knocks Thade down and she still fights her way back up and tries to herd him into the corner for more punching fun...the world's most lopsided game of whack-a-mole.
Emma Carlisle: Do you see it yet? How do you hurt someone who thrives on pain in terms of both giving and receiving?
Axel Reid: She can't keep it up, though...not against those sledgehammers that Kincaid is tossing.
Emma Carlisle: Maybe she can, maybe she can't. But answer me this: when is the last time anyone stood up this long against Kincaid's power?
Ruby Parvati: She's got you there, Axel.
Pretty sure at this point that he's had enough, Kincaid goes for the throat again, yet Joanna slips the proverbial noose and lands behind him, managing to trip Kincaid and pull him into a roll-up!
ONE...
TWO...
The big man gets out of the pin attempt and snatches Joanna out of the air when she comes off the second turnbuckle, nailing a ring-shaking scoop powerslam. Feeling that it's his turn to return the favor, Kincaid grabs a fistful of blue and starts delivering punches to Joanna on the mat, getting three in before the referee warns him off. Letting go, he pulls up the Warchild and takes her over with a double-underhook suplex throw, the impact sending her close to the ropes. She gets into a sitting position thanks to those nearby handholds but eats a running punch from Kincaid that nearly sends her out to the floor.
Woken up by the blow, she rushes Kincaid and gets sent WAY into the air via a back body drop, probably reaching eight feet or so before coming down hard on the canvas. Still fighting, Joanna works her way back to her feet, the concern on the faces of Opeare and Doll on the outside showing the punishment the Warchild has been taking more than the woman's own face. Turning with intent to lunge at Kincaid, the big man is already in motion and Joanna has to duck quickly, aborting her would-be attack on the beast of a man. It's just what Kincaid wanted, leaving Joanna wide open for an incisor-wrecking big boot that sends her hard to the mat!
Emma Carlisle: Distressing.
Ruby Parvati: That's one way to put it. Another way would be I just heard a dentist salivating in the fourth row.
Kincaid drops down and hooks the far leg.
ONE...
TWO...
TH-SHOULDER UP!
Axel Reid: Talk about close! Even Kincaid looks a little surprised.
Emma Carlisle: He shouldn't be. The man is due some amount of admiration for his drive and determination, but there is no stopping a Horsewoman.
Ruby Parvati: Well, Joanna is making a believer out of me.
Axel Reid: She's still in dire straits here...
Disbelief is evident on Kincaid's face but he keeps the fight going, exhorted lustily by his wife Alyssa on the other side of the ring. He sends Joanna into the ropes on jelly legs, taking a step at her before seeing that she's hooked her arms to the top rope to stop his momentum. The momentary pause is what Joanna plays on, going low with a dropkick to Kincaid's knee to slow him down as her kicks had previously. With his head lowered, Joanna is able to deliver a modified PsyKick to the side of Kincaid's skull, darting for the ropes behind him and coming back in a mad rush.
Ruby Parvati: Sanity Check incoming!
Axel Reid: No! Kincaid caught her!
Caught her and hurled her, sending the Warchild into the ropes again, this time with her arms draped over the top as she sits precariously on the middle strand. A running knee to her back amplifies her pain though there's stil a shadow of a smile on her face...at least until Kincaid puts a knee to her back, grabs her around the chin and falls back with a modified backcracker! The impact is brutal and even Emma at the announce table has the good sense to wince a little.
Emma Carlisle: Clever move by the caveman...
Axel Reid: That has to be it...
Kincaid goes for another pin attempt, having to bodily move the almost-limp Joanna.
ONE...
TWO...
THRE-FOOT ON THE ROPES!
Axel Reid: Does she not know when to quit?! Kincaid is going to end up breaking her in half if this goes on too much longer!
Ruby Parvati: He's certainly dealing out the damage, Axel, but I think he's starting to wonder what's going on with this woman, too.
Emma Carlisle: How I love watching people realize the truth before their eyes.
Looking askance at the referee, Kincaid holds up three fingers but the referee shows two in response. Willing himself to keep focused, Kincaid rises to a knee and seeks to bring Joanna up with him...when the Warchild lurches up with what has to be her last bit of energy, wrapping her arms around his head and wrenching back with a guillotine choke!
Axel Reid: The Lobotomy! Where'd she find the energy for that?!
Ruby Parvati: The better question is does she have the strength to hold on long enough to choke that monster out?!
Joanna tries to force both her body and Kincaid's around, using her ring awareness to keep him from reaching the ropes. Kincaid is reaching blindly, trying to grab hold of something to either break the hold or get leverage to wrench this 145-pound Warchild from around his neck. Eventually she's maneuvered under the ropes, rendering the hold useless and forcing the official to call for a break. Joanna, not about to give up that easily, throws her full body weight, only half that of Kincaid's, into wrenching him back more and more. Half-pulled, half-moving of his own accord, Kincaid is urged forward until Joanna is hanging off the edge of the apron as she's clamp onto the big man.
Clubbing blows, fired blindly, start coming down on her chest, a few damn close to her face, and they eventually knock her loose and send her to landing hard on the floor with Kincaid falling out and landing half atop her on the floor. Joanna, from having the hell beaten out of her up to this point, is laying still save for her rapidly rising-and-falling chest while Kincaid, having the air squeezed out of him, is only moving slightly more. The official is at the ropes and starts up the ten count.
Ruby Parvati: Well, he got loose, but I think the damage has been done.
Axel Reid: Joanna's barely moving and Kincaid doesn't seem to know where he is yet...
ONE...
TWO...
THREE...
Emma Carlisle: He underestimated her. There's a price to pay for that.
Ruby Parvati: No offense, but Joanna's paying a price of her own.
Emma Carlisle: She does so gladly.
FOUR...
Up to one knee again, Kincaid is trying to shake off the cobwebs. Joanna has barely moved since hitting the floor beneath Kincaid, barely turning onto her side.
FIVE...
SIX...
Axel Reid: The count's dangerously close here...we might end up with a double-countout at this rate.
Emma Carlisle: At least if that happened, Kincaid would have the good sense not to fabricate nonsense about being undefeated a la Kelsey Spencer.
Ruby Parvati: She DID have a point about not being pinned or submitted...
Emma Carlisle: I'm sad to hear that you bought her tripe, Ruby.
SEVEN...
Getting a hand on the apron, Kincaid pulls himself up a bit more while Joanna has crawled to the steps, looking for a means to rise as well.
EIGHT...
Alyssa, unable to close the distance any further between herself and her husband, continues to should encouragement. Shields is, to a lesser degree, doing the same for Joanna while Doll looks on with considerable concern.
NINE...
With a last lunge, Kincaid rolls in under the bottom rope...
TEN!
...while Joanna gets in just half a second too late!
DING! DING! DING!
Jerry Heisenberg: Ladies and gentlemen, your winner via countout...KINCAID!
"Passenger" comes on again as Kincaid, on one knee again, has his arm raised by the official. With the match over, Alyssa enters the ring to check on him while Joanna falls back into the corner in a sitting position, staring at them both while trying to catch her breath.
Axel Reid: Margins don't get any closer than that. Kincaid pulls off the win, but not in the way I think he expected to.
Ruby Parvati: Joanna took her lumps like a champ and I think if the match was still on she'd go at him with the same force.
Emma Carlisle: Another time, unfortunately. Still, there is a lesson to be learned from this.
Axel Reid: That being?
Emma Carlisle: Just what I've said time and again, Axel: we can be slowed down, but we can't be stopped. Kincaid escaped with the slimmest of victories, unable to put my Warchild's shoulders to the mat or draw submission from her. That, in our eyes, is a victory for War.
There's a thump and hiss as Emma removes and sets down her headset, going to Joanna in the corner and speaking quietly to her partner. Kincaid and Alyssa keep an eye on both women as they leave the ring and head up the ramp though neither Emma nor Joanna give them any further attention.
Ruby Parvati: That's called positive thinking, Axel.
Axel Reid: A win is a win and this match is Kincaid's.
Ruby Parvati: This time.
