The crowd on hand is roaring with excitement as "Hold your Ground" by CAVO hits the speakers, sending the fans in attendance into an explosion of cheers and jeers. They hold up various hand crafted signs as our aerial view pans around the arena, showing all who have purchased a ticket to see tonight's show live. After roughly thirty seconds of showcasing the audience, the all too familiar voices of Axel Reid and Ruby Parvati become audible now, as they begin their weekly broadcast from the commentary booth situated just in front of the ring.
Axel Reid: Welcome, ladies and gentleman! To Breakthrough, live from the Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul, Minnesota! The countdown to Exposure continues right here tonight and man oh man do we have some top notch competition to bring you!
Ruby Parvati: And a whole slew of sexy bods that I want to wake up next to...
Axel Reid: I'm Axel Reid and as usual, my lovely broadcast partner, Ruby Parvati. If you've tune in to watch us, with the intention of seeing some of the finest wrestling action going today, you're definitely in the right place! We have it all! A triple threat that puts "Sick" Drake Blake, Vanessa, and red hot newcomer Casanova English in the same ring at one time! Seth Iser takes on PKA in what should be a very intense confrontation. Scott Knight will do battle with Bobby Backdoor, Starrkadian meets Brett Carson in singles competition... and let's certainly not forget the main event of the evening! Matt Slater will take on Logan Rourke Keegan in a battle of technical brilliance versus striking supremacy!
Ruby Parvati: Yeah but before we get to the 'good stuff', we'll have to see how the first couple of matches pan out for us. Patrick Jones will meet the Blue Scorpion, whatever the heck that's supposed to be. And in our opening bout of the evening, newcomer Matt Rydell squares off against a man who refused to show up last week and I'm wondering whether or not this Desmond Astor guy is worth the trouble, Reid.
Axel Reid: That remains to be seen. But if Frei has faith in the guy, then I have to as well. Stefan knows talent when he sees it. But I guess we'll find that out right now, won't we? -
The instrumental version of ACDC's hit single, "Back in Black" filters out from the speakers as fans cheer loudly upon seeing the CEO of VOW, Stefan Frei, appear from behind the curtains.
Axel Reid: There he is, folks! The man who transformed this vision of his, this dream into a reality!
Ruby Parvati: Woohoo, welcome to Boredom-ville... Population? Every one in attendance, EXCEPT for you.
Axel Reid: Oh stop it... That man is the sole reason why you and I get to do something we enjoy every week, Ruby. Maybe you should show him a bit more respect?
Ruby Parvati: He isn't my type...
With a mic in his hand and an expression on his face that he means all business, the founding father of Visionaries of Wrestling makes his gradual approach toward the ring. He eventually climbs into the squared circle and plays briefly to the cheering crowd as his music silences. His demeanor changes somewhat as a smile appears while he gazes out into the sea of fans who have now settled enough for him to speak.
Stefan Frei: Now as most of you are aware, last week on Breakthrough I announced the date of VOW's very first pay-per-view; Exposure. On June 24th, you will get a chance to see the best wrestlers in the business today, earning every inch on their way to a successful career in Visionaries of Wrestling... and on a much grander stage than usual. However, I may... or may not... have left out one crucial detail during that announcement.
Frei scans the audience, as they are overwhelmed with anticipation. Suddenly, a grin forms on his face as he raises the mic to his mouth.
Stefan Frei: The location of that event!
The crowd erupts as it appears as though Frei is finally going to make what was under wraps for so long public knowledge.
Stefan Frei: Yes, ladies and gentleman! On the 24th of June... Live from the XCEL Energy Center in St, Paul, Minnesota! -
'I DESERVE YOUR RESPECT!'
Opening strums of Gehena begin to blare in interruption...and the audience performs a 180 in attitude showering the music with disdain in their systems. The boo birds only get louder when first coming in is Vincent Moretti...wearing the dreaded Chicago Blackhawks Jersey...a distinct reminder of who eliminated them from the playoffs. After a couple seconds...emerging from the curtain is Seth Iser...wearing the rival Blues jersey...and that only intensifies the hatred.
Axel Reid: I'm learning to really hate that open...because the audacity of this man never ceases to...I would say amaze but I don't want to glorify it.
Moretti doesn't seem to understand subtity in the slightest because he's moved over to a woman in the front row with an engagement ring and her husband sitting next to her and he's gesturing at his junk. As soon as the husband stands up though...Iser, the intimidating man that he is, steps in...and after it looks like the husband is about ready to back down...Iser swiftly steals the drink of coke and throws it right at the man! On cue...security has rushed the scene to prevent various members of the front row audience to attack the stars though the man did get one swing over connecting with the security guard rather than Iser by mistake. All this does is put a grin on Moretti's face and a sneer still etched on Iser's as they start walking up the steps to enter the ring.
Soon enough...Iser and Moretti have both finally entered the ring...the audience a certain level of enraged already and they haven't even spoken publicly yet. Moretti had a microphone hidden under his jersey while Iser takes a spare one(the ring announcer wisely handing it to him because why would you refuse his request?) and Moretti is just smiling at the see of hatred while Iser's focus is laser like...on the owner...Mr. Frei himself.
Vincent Moretti: The great one has arrived!
Moretti makes that statement while pointing at Iser and that...introduction warrants another round of booing from the audience before Iser just twirls the microphone in his hand...waiting for things to simmer down before speaking.
Seth Iser: Holding out details...stringing them along just to see what's going to happen next...I see how it is...but unlike the people in the audience...I'm a direct employee...and since you haven't given us the right to know when that'll happen...let's just not mense words or dance around it...I want Reya Sera in this ring...on June 24th...on Exposure. I want the chance to prove what I've been saying the last month since we started this company to be true...and I have earned that right to have that happen...because at this point...there are very few wrestlers in this industry better than me.
There are boos for the various declarations of arrogance Iser made...but for that moment Moretti turns to the audience.
Vincent Moretti: Now...don't be mad that your team is like the person that went to Vegas...stupidly put all your money on red and found out there was a green zero and the ball landed on it...dashing your hopes and dreams. Don't be mad that the Wild are like that for you all...breaking your banks and hopes and dreams. Instead...you should cheer a real team like the Blues or the Blackhawks...and instead of cheering for fakes like Reya and PKA...you should cheer for my client Seth Iser!
The fans are booing distinctly but Iser isn't focusing on them...just staring at Frei with his own intensity...not wavering for a second.
Seth Iser: I'm not here for the horse*bleep*...tell me straight. Am I getting what I deserve...what I've earned?
Frei's smirk vanishes as he peers at Iser and Moretti collectively. Taking a deep breath, he raises a hand in Seth's general direction.
Stefan Frei: Know what, Mister Iser? You're absolutely right. As far as "earning" goes, I can't deny it. You have risen above and beyond my expectations. You've overcome every challenge that has been placed before you since your arrival here in VOW. So yes, I'd be a fool to say you haven't earned what you're requesting, Seth.
Axel Reid: No! Don't buy into what he's feeding you! Ruby, do something!
Ruby Parvati: Oh I am...
Axel Reid: I don't mean stare at Iser's package!
The crowd is booing up a storm now, but Frei suddenly puts an end to that with what he says next. All the while never taking his eyes off the Deity of Destruction.
Stefan Frei: But what gives YOU the right to come out here... and place demands on me? What gives YOU the right to just make an appearance whenever you feel like it, only to try and strong arm me into getting that which you desire most? Have you earned the right to fight Reya Serra at Exposure? It would be hard for me to disagree there. Do you deserve it right now? That I'm not so sure of...
Seth Iser: Then let me answer your question with a question of my own. What gives YOU the right to withhold information of where we're going to wrestle next until the last minute like that? For the record...I don't live in this miserable state and have to make travel plans accordingly...but let me ask a second question on top of that. What gives you the right...YOU...being a former wrestler...a guy who knows where I'm coming from...what gives you the right to deny another wrestler what he needs in the middle of this ring. Would you rather me take it to the streets in a renegade and outlaw fashion like I probably would have years ago?
And Iser raises his hand up before Frei can answer it for a moment.
Seth Iser: And if you answer with 'Well I'm your boss'...its an excuse and a strike against basic human decency and a strike against a half way decent work environment.
Stefan lowers his head and stares at the canvas, in deep contemplation. As if he's weighing each option in his head.
Axel Reid: Is he seriously debating?! You're doing exactly what that man wants you to do!
Ruby Parvati: You have to admit, Axel... That Seth Iser sure does have a way with words, doesn't he?
The crowd is torn. Some boo, while others cheer in the hopes that Frei will put Iser in his place. Suddenly, Stefan perks up and makes eye contact with Seth in the middle of the ring. He gradually brings the mic to his lips and following a sharp inhale...
Stefan Frei: That's right, I am your boss. But I refuse to play that card. See, I'm a fair man... you want Reya Serra at the PPV? Consider it done!
The crowd begins to boo in response.
Axel Reid: Oh man! Reya Serra! Seth Iser! One on one at Exposure!
Ruby Parvati: Will Reya be exploited as a fraud, or will Iser's theory be proven wrong?!
Stefan Frei: By the way, Iser... and listen closely, because I really want this to sink in. You know, there's an old quote I heard a lot throughout my career as a professional Wrestler. Which went, "Do unto others... as you would have them do unto you." I'll give you your match at Exposure, but consider this a warning. You've witnessed, first hand, that I'm a fair man... but with the drop of a dime, I CAN be stern. Don't find yourself on the wrong side of that... and best of luck at Exposure. You're going to need it.
The crowd explodes into cheers as Frei drops the mic and continues to stare at Iser and Moretti.
Seth hides what he's probably truly thinking with a stern look of his own...one iron will to another before mouthing 'Good doing business' off the microphone. Moretti, on the other hand, has gone from one extreme...the joy of his client getting what he wants...to the realization of what...the stern side could mean consuming his face into a look of worry and panic.
Axel Reid: Was that a nod of respect... from Iser of all people? Or did I imagine that?
Ruby Parvati: Hey now, don't be so judgmental! Seth Iser can exhibit respect and good sportsmanship when he wants to.
Axel Reid: Or when it benefits him most. Folks, we'll be right back after the commercial break! Ruby... the tension in that ring is so thick you can cut it with the dullest of knives!
Our cameras gradually fade to a scheduled intermission as the last image we see is all three men continuing their stare down in the middle of the ring.
