VoW Headquarters in St. Paul, Minnesota
I look up at the large modern day looking building in front of me on this stormy yet humid Friday morning, the busy streets of St. Paul surround me with people making their way to work or going elsewhere for whether they’re going shopping or just going out for fun. Dressed in a pair of black Doc Martins, a pair of dark blue stonewashed denim jeans, a black Metallica Death Magnetic T-shirt and a black leather jacket with my long black hair tied back in a ponytail and my black duffel bag slung over my shoulder, I make my way towards the large glass doors and push them open and enter the building. Looking around, I can tell this place has just recently being refurbished, the main clue is the fact the smell of fresh paint still lingers in the air, but only slightly, meaning it had been finished maybe a week or two ago. As I continue to survey my surroundings, I soon hear the sound of footsteps growing louder and louder, I turn my head in the direction as to where the sound is coming from and standing a couple of feet away from me is a young thin black male with very short black hair and a five o’clock shadow who is dressed in a pair of black polished leather shoes, a silver coloured suit with a matching tie and a white shirt. Being a few inches taller than this man, I tower over him slightly as he smiles and extends his hand for a handshake.
Man
Mr E I presume? Welcome to VoW, my name is Darius Yates and I’m the backstage interviewer for VoW. Allow me to be the first to officially welcome you into our company…
Looks like I’m going to be seeing a lot of this guy since he’s the backstage interviewer, I don’t really care too much for interviews since I’m not much of a people person, but everyone knows what interviewers are like, they never seem to care how you’re feeling or whether you like to be interviewed or not, they just persist anyway until you give in and let them interview you. I guess I better shake the guy’s hand, I may not get along well with others but I need to make a good first impression here.
Mr E
Thanks…
I shake Darius’ hand, putting the guy at ease seemingly, my size and stature mixed with my menacing look doesn’t exactly make people very comfortable when they’re around me.
Darius Yates
Please, let me take you on the tour of our Headquarters…
He begins to make his way towards a set of wooden doors and I follow him, I don’t exactly want this tour but again, I have to try and make a good first impression.
Darius Yates
Now, VoW is still a relatively new wrestling promotion, we certainly don’t have the biggest Roster in the world but we’re growing by the day. Can I ask who contacted you in regards to signing here? Or who did you contact?
I look around the building as we walk through it, only really half listening to what Darius is saying.
Mr E
Ryan Omega…
Darius Yates
Ah yes, he is VoW’s Director of Wrestling Operations, do you two know each other?
Mr E
Nope…
I hear a small nervous laugh come from Darius as we continue walking and I keep on scanning my surroundings.
Darius Yates
Not much of a talker?
Mr E
Nope…
Darius Yates
That’s cool; I know how nerve racking it can be being the new guy…
I chuckle a little at those words, I’m certainly not nervous about being here; I’m not a nervous person. Just look at me, I’m one of the most intimidating looking guys on the face of the Earth.
Darius Yates
You’ll enjoy it here, it’s a cool place to work…I never really tried being a wrestler myself; I was a Hell of an athlete in high school though. My specialties were football, basketball and track; I ended up accepting an athletic scholarship for the University of Minnesota track team. Didn’t even have to leave my family or anything either, being a native of Minnesota, grew up in Bloomington…
Man can this guy talk, he’s lucky he’s only the damn backstage interviewer or else I would have knocked him out by now.
Darius Yates
I became a sportscaster at the CBS affiliate in the Minneapolis, St. Paul market, until I heard about this place, so I stepped down from my job there, sent these guys my resume and the rest is history…
He stops and turns to face me as he says the last few words of his story and I stop too and just stare at him.
Darius Yates
But enough about me…let me show you the other members of staff who work here…
He turns to his left and looks at the wall and my eyes follow to where he’s facing and I see a few framed photographs lining the wall. He points to the first one that depicts a photograph of himself.
Darius Yates
That’s me, as you know, you already know enough about me and my position here in VoW…
Darius points to the next framed photograph which displays a chubby looking bald white male with a greying goatee.
Darius Yates
This guy here is our ring announcer, Jerry Heisenberg. He’s from New York, Brooklyn to be precise and he was born to Jewish-American parents. He worked for his father for a bit at his family’s deli that specialized in kosher meats and cheeses and he used to call out the numbers of the customers in line and that was how he landed the job of ring announcing.
Darius points to the next photograph and damn what a sight it is, a gorgeous tanned slender female with long ebony locks.
Darius Yates
Here we have our colour commentator, Ruby Parvati. Born in California after her parents moved to the States from India, she got into wrestling after an old boyfriend of hers introduced her to it and after paying her way doing a bunch of different things; she did some minor journalism work and ended up becoming VoW’s colour commentator. She’s a rather flirtatious woman, tends to like the younger men, and seems to know more about their personal lives than the wrestling world.
I smirk slightly as Darius points to the fourth photograph displaying a thin male with wavy blonde hair and a beard.
Darius Yates
And here’s the guy who sits beside Ruby, the play by play commentator, Axel Reid. This guy is a huge wrestling fan and is pretty much in his dream job as a commentator, from Cleveland, Ohio, he’s achieved a ton of degrees in various subjects such as computer engineering and a Bachelor’s in English; however he wanted to do what he was passionate about from any early age, that being working in wrestling. He doesn’t really get along too well with his commentating partner because he’s so passionate about wrestling, where she isn’t and often takes shots at it.
He quickly points to the next photograph.
Darius Yates
That’s Ryan Omega who you already know, and I’ve already told you what his job is here so we’ll move onto the next one…
He then points to the penultimate photograph that displays yet another attractive female, this one being a slender, dirty blonde haired vixen.
Darius Yates
That’s our General Manager, Sky Sangue. Originally from Ukraine, she is an incredibly intelligent businesswoman, and if I were you, I’d stay on her good side. She’s a former MMA fighter and she’s a feisty woman to say the least, not much is known about her life growing up, however she was born during the time Ukraine was suffering nuclear explosions left, right and centre. She was lucky to escape, but her mother was killed due to extreme exposure to radiation and she was sent to Italy to live with her American father before she ended up moving to the States. She’s well and truly fascinated by the world of wrestling, hence why she has the job of General Manager, but she’s not a fan of the ‘old school’ wrestling mentalities and likes things brutal.
Darius then points to the final photograph that depicts a thin, nearly bald man.
Darius Yates
And finally here is one of the main guys responsible for VoW, the CEO of the company, Stefan Frei. If you need anything, this is the guy to go too because he’s very approachable and isn’t likely to try and bite your head off unlike our GM. A former wrestler in his own right, his wrestling career was unfortunately cut short when he suffered a herniated disc in his lower back…even after taking the necessary precautions during his recovery after having surgery; he was never the same in the ring and that ultimately led to his retirement. However even though his career was cut short, because of how great he was in the ring, he was given the nickname ‘Mr Wrestling’ and that’s why he’s so well known around these parts.
Darius then begins to once again make his way down the corridor so I start following him again.
Darius Yates
And speaking of Mr Frei…
After only a short walk, we stop outside a wooden oak door, in the centre of it is a gold nameplate with the words ‘VoW CEO, Mr Stefan Frei’ on it.
Darius Yates
Here is where you’ll be sorting out your contract, just go right on in. Mr Frei isn’t here yet but he won’t be too long, when he gets here I’ll let him know you’re waiting for him. And once again, welcome to the company…
Darius again extends his hand for a handshake, which I accept before he pats me on the arm and disappears out of view. I look down at the golden doorknob and take hold of it and twist it, opening the door and letting myself into the office of my soon to be new boss. Looking around, I see replicas of the many championships Mr Frei had won over his short wrestling career, pretty damn impressive if you ask me, no wonder he was nicknamed Mr Wrestling. I walk over to large wooden desk and sit down in the wooden chair, placing my bag down at my feet; I stare at the black leather recliner on the other side of the desk that will soon be filled by Mr Frei. As I continue to look around the seemingly cosy looking office, I think to myself about my new start here in VoW.
Mr E
VoW, you all better be ready for me. Ryan Omega brought me into this company, whether he wants me to be his enforcer, or whether he wants me to be his wife’s enforcer, it doesn’t matter because I am also here to wrestle and that is my main priority here. I may have little to no experience when it comes to wrestling, but I plan on changing that soon enough, and I know that I can achieve great things here in this industry. I’m not here to make friends, I’m not here to join groups or teams, I am here to destroy anyone and everyone who is put in front of me. I am here to win championships and prove to myself and to the world that I can become one of the most dominant forces to have ever stepped into the squared circle. VoW, I hope you’re ready for me…because I’m ready for you!
