Calming winds gently blow through the palm trees along the beach, complemented by the gentle crash of waves on the shoreline. It’s a slice of paradise that harbours a dark, disturbing secret. This small island is actually home to a neo-cult the likes of which the world hasn’t seen before.
Rebecca is lounging at her head office, looking out upon the newly-founded Saint City. What was once a fictitious location has grown into a full-fledged society where the children and teens live in peace with their malevolent maternal figure. While she is trying to relax somewhat, a door creaks open as Mimi Mai, possibly the most recognisable of Rebecca’s followers, slowly enters.
Mimi Mai Saint: “Umm… Sorry to interrupt, but… Are you busy right now?”
Rebecca Saint: “I was trying to relax after a long morning of induction… What do you need?”
Mimi Mai Saint: “That really was inspiring… So glad we all have a place to be ourselves, and live in peace…”
She steps into the room, bringing with her a rather large box.
Mimi Mai Saint: “That’s what I wanted to talk to you about, actually…”
Intrigued, Rebecca moves slightly closer to Mimi.
Rebecca Saint: “What do you have in the box?”
Mimi Mai Saint: “Well, it’s--”
She places the box on the desk before her Mother with a nervous smile.
Mimi Mai Saint: “It’s just a little something all us kids wanted to do for you. We pooled what little money we had, and got you something to say thanks for everything you’ve done.”
Rebecca Saint: “I’m not a person who refuses gifts, let alone gifts from my children.”
Rebecca goes to take the box off the desk, and Mimi fidgets with her hands nervously, anxious to see whether or not what was in the box would be met with a warm reception of approval.
Mimi Mai Saint: “We had some help, too, from daddy. He organised the delivery and everything…”
Rebecca proceeds to open the box. Once she has opened it, she is quite surprised to see a title belt.
Rebecca Saint: “This is quite amazing. Mimi, this time you and my children have out done yourselves.”
A bright smile sweeps Mimi’s teenage face, which has been a rarity after what she had to endure in her youth.
Mimi Mai Saint: “It’s a championship belt, made specifically for you. The Saint City Championship, because this is our home. It’s Saint City, and you’re our Champion.”
Rebecca smiles herself, feeling very proud of herself and her children. She stands and takes the belt from the box, inspecting its golden face plate with the words “SAINT CITY CHAMPION” embossed upon it. She admires her own reflection in it, speaking to Mimi without taking her eyes off it.
Rebecca Saint: “Mimi, tonight we shall have a feast in honour of this great deed you have all done. You shall present the title to me again, this time in front of everyone.”
Mimi Mai Saint: “You… Y-You really think I’m the right person for the job?”
Rebecca Saint: “Of course! You are the only person for the job.”
She raises an eyebrow, shifting her gaze from the belt to Mimi.
Rebecca Saint: “...Unless you don’t want to? I’m sure many of my children would jump at the chance to do this for me.”
Mimi Mai Saint: “N-no, of course I want to! It would be an honour!”
She bows respectfully before showing herself out of the room with the championship belt.
Later that evening, a large table is set up with many delectables - pork, chicken, roast vegetables, anything you can imagine. Dozens upon dozens of young kids and teens are seated at the lengthy table… No-one is going without nourishment. Of course, seated at the head of the table is none other than the Saint City Saviour herself, Rebecca Saint, who is munching away on a juicy hunk of pork crackling.
Seated beside her, Mimi gives a slight nudge.
Mimi Mai Saint: “...Now?”
Rebecca nods in response to Mimi and keeps eating her crackling. Mimi demonstrates that she’s not a public speaker when she stands in her place and becomes a nervous wreck. She manages to push herself through her anxiety as she climbs upon her seat and uses it as a podium to speak to her brothers and sisters.
Mimi Mai Saint: “Can I have everyone’s attention, please? I have something important that I want to say.”
Most of the kids cease devouring their dinner to respectfully give their undivided attention to her.
Mimi Mai Saint: “I know many of you have come here because you were living in a very toxic environment, like I was. I don’t know all of you personally, and as I look up and down this table, I see a lot of faces that I’m not familiar with. But that’s okay, because you’re all here now where no-one can hurt any of us, and we have eternity to get to know each other. I think we can all agree that we have just one person to thank for that…”
She motions towards Rebecca.
Mimi Mai Saint: “Miss Saint has graciously taken us in, and asked for nothing in return. I thought everyone was evil until I was fortunate enough to meet her. She saved me, I owe her my life, and I’m sure a lot of you here tonight feel the same. So, it is my honour here tonight, on the sandy shores of Saint City, to present our fearless leader with a very special gift...from all of us.”
Rebecca stands, dusting her hands off as she overzealously acts shocked by the news that she’s receiving a gift. Mimi hands the box over to her - the very same box that contains the championship belt she’s already aware of. As Rebecca opens it and lifts the title out, her eyes widen with played-up glee… She raises the championship belt high above her head as the kids scream and cheer.
She rests the championship on her shoulder, and appears to tear up a little as she stands on her own chair to deliver a speech.
Rebecca Saint: “I really don’t know what to say… This is such a shock to me…”
Whilst keeping the belt on her shoulder she puts her other hand to her heart.
Rebecca Saint: “This has been a very bumpy road for all, but none more so than myself. I’ve had to endure much scrutiny in regards to trying to save all your lives. At least through you, my children, I’ve received the recognition I deserve. I can say this truly, without you, Saint City would never exist. Usually, I have prepared a speech is regards to things like this, but this comes straight out of left field.”
Rebecca looks down and under her plate is a small piece of paper. Contrary to her claims, she’s actually come well-prepared to give this speech of hers.
Rebecca Saint: “I don’t want to make this too long, as I can see many of you have plenty of food on your plates. I would like to commend Mimi for her bravery at Breakthrough #46, though. By assisting me with a beautiful armbar, we have rid the wrestling world of that backstabber, Kelsey Spencer. Take a bow, my child.”
Mimi takes a well-earned bow, basking in the approval of her peers.
Rebecca Saint: “I’ve heard that nobody has even seen Kelsey Spencer since that night… It’s like she dropped off the face of the Earth! My children, Kelsey Spencer was a very bad person. She, along with all her filthy friends, are just like the authority figures you left behind to come here. They will all try and harm you, but I won’t let that happen. She was the first of many who will fall, my children, I can assure you of that.”
She brings the belt to her chest to gaze upon it once more.
Rebecca Saint: “I whole-heartedly accept this wondrous gift from all of you. This belt may be pretty, but it’s nothing compared to the beauty of the souls within each and every one of you.”
She pauses for a moment, handing the title belt to Mimi, who then straps it around her mother’s waist.
Rebecca Saint: “So, once again, thank you… And welcome to Saint City!”
