Well, here we are for the second edition, so I guess VoW has not decided not to cancel this thing yet. I am sorry for the wait for this post though. It’s been a little hectic the last few days. As most of you are aware, I took a trip last week, so I missed out on some stuff then had to catch back up. It was worth it though to see some of the best this planet has to offer. Without going into too much detail, I spent a week in Alaska checking out glaciers, whales, and a hundred other little things that make it one of the most breathtaking places I have visited. Trying to describe it would be pointless, so I won’t even try. Pictures do not do it justice either. The scale of everything and the way it surrounds you is just not something a photograph can capture, not even a panoramic one. If you get a chance, GO!
Speaking of people going, VoW had more than a little bad publicity while I was gone. Originally, I thought something had happened at Breakthrough. That was false. Due mostly to an inability (and some part just not wanting) to access social media, or really the outside world, it took until after I was in the lower 48 to figure out what happened. In the end, a scumbag finally crossed the line, and Ryan Omega did the right thing. Good riddance. If you don’t know who I am talking about, be glad. I won’t give him any more publicity because he deserves to drift fully into irrelevance like he wanted so badly for others to do. Thankfully, his target has a very close (really it’s a bit uncomfortably close) support group.
Speaking of support groups, I might need one for all the self-esteem issues Ryder Blade seems to be intent on causing me. I let it slide last week without mention, but he keeps using me as a punchline when he opens his mouth to spew more diarrhea all over the place. I doubt he cares to read this since I am useless in his mind, but it’s fair warning either way. And here’s the thing, his words don’t really affect me. I just get annoyed when people try using my name or anyone else to try and get a reaction when we aren’t even involved in the situation. He knows the fans like me, and he wants to get under the skin. It’s really a weak attempt to piss people off.
Unfortunately, this isn’t getting any cheerier. Anyone who is not living under a rock is aware of the terrorist attacks in France, the coup attempt in Turkey, and the violence across the US. It breaks my heart to see good, innocent people killed, injured, or at all affected by hate. It’s why I stand up for the morals that I do every time I enter the ring. No, I’m not saving lives. No, I’m NOT a hero. And hell no, I don’t mean a damn thing when it comes to those tragedies. But I have to do what I can. Each of us has to do what we can. Normal people doing the right things, even when it’s usually not the easy choice, is how this gets better. When people learn that skin and uniform color do not justify the murder of innocents, that’s when the world starts to heal. In a world of people doing the right thing, egomaniacal politicians and military leaders wouldn’t cause a country to be on the brink of all out civil war. When real tolerance is achieved, people learn that disagreeing with someone doesn’t mean you have to dislike that person or want to harm others like them.
And it all starts with each person taking personal responsibility for their actions. This goes out to people everywhere, including the VoW locker room. Do not let the actions of others corrupt you. If you are a person of integrity, stand strong. If you are part of the problem, you suck. End of story. End of blog. I’m sorry it was less pleasant than it will normally be, but right now, that’s just how things are. Let's fix it.
