Secrets are like stories. We all have them but it's what we do with them that matters most. Are you willing to share them? Or are keeping them bottled up? No matter the reasons, secrets can damage your reputation.

The sun was just beginning to set as Valerie was looking at it from her third floor balcony. It was getting late as Todd had pulled into a Days Inn hotel in Portland, Oregon. Valerie senses something isn't right with the man who raised her since she was a little girl. The car was a clear indicator as they would share stories about Valerie's many adolescent mistakes she made growing up. This time it was quiet. A little too quiet for her taste. "Where is he?" she asks herself while staring down at the clock on her iPhone. "He should have been back by now," she remarks as she sprawls onto the bed. Her right knee is slightly bent while resting on top of a pillow.
Valerie did have a right to be concerned as Todd was out getting them a pizza and some drinks. That was supposed to be four hours ago. This was unusual even for him to be gone this long without giving her phone call. She waited for thirty minutes before picking up her phone and giving him a call. She dials his number and places it up to her ear. It rings twice before going straight to voicemail. Valerie hangs up at first thinking to herself this can't be right. She tries it again and gets the same voicemail message. Not knowing what to do she decides to leave him a message. "Hey Todd, it's me. I am jut calling to see where you are. Please call me back." She hangs up while leaning against the head board.
A few hours later, she picks up her phone and sees that she has no messages. This behavior Todd was showing was really starting to scare her and that's not easy to do. She waits for a few seconds before picking her phone back up. She scrolls through her contacts as Zahara's name is highlighted. She takes a deep breath and presses the talk button. She places the phone up to her ear as the phone is ringing. "Come on pick up," she mutters to herself while waiting for someone to pick up. Just as Valerie was about to hang up, a crackling sound comes over the phone. "Hello," says Zahara as she is sitting inside her bedroom watching television.
"Zahara, it's me," replies Valerie as she sits up. "Vallie, how are you doing girl? I hope you made it back to Seattle," retorts Zahara as a smile forms across her face. "You haven't seen Todd have you?" asked Valerie as she swings her leg down onto the floor. "No. I haven't seen him since you guys left a few days ago. Why?" answers Zahara as Valerie is sitting on the side of the hotel bed. She takes a few minutes to collect her thoughts before continuing. "Todd said he was going for a pizza but hasn't came back. This was six hours ago. I am currently sitting in this hotel room alone. Which I have no problem with but I don't know where Todd is," Valerie's voice is starting to break as Zahara tries to comfort her.
"Maybe he got lost and is out of cell phone range. Where are you guys anyway?[/color]" asks Zahara. "We are in Portland, Oregon," answers Valerie. "I can't get to you right now Vallie but I am sure Todd will turn up," says Zahara while trying to comfort Valerie. Before Valerie could respond, Todd comes walking back into the room. His face is all red as his knuckles look to be a little bruised. "What the hell!?" asks Valerie not realizing she was still on the phone.
"What? What's going on Vallie?" Zahara answers with questions of her own. "Todd just walked in and his knuckles look very bad," replies Valerie as both women are wondering what Todd was up to. He takes one look back through the peephole and turns to see Valerie on the phone. "Get off the phone," orders Todd as Valerie places her hand over the mouth piece. "I am talking to Zahara. What the hell happened to you?" responds Valerie as Todd just looks at her. "Just do what I say and get off the damn phone," Todd orders again as he takes one look at himself. "I need a damn shower," is all he says as he disappears into the bathroom.
"Is everything alright Val?" asks a concerned Zahara. "I am not sure but I will call you later," answers Valerie. They both say good bye as Valerie hangs up the phone. She hears the water running in the bathroom as she starts to think about Todd's knuckles. The scene slowly starts to fade as Valerie repositions herself back onto the bed.
