The scene opens to my room at the Quality Inn in Thief River Falls, Minnesota and I am sitting, curled up on the sofa with a glass of red wine in my hand with my laptop resting on the table in front of me. I’m dressed in a pair of purple silk pyjama bottoms and a plain black tank top talking to my mother on Skype.
Mum
You did fantastic at Breakthrough sweetie, I’m really proud of you...
Stacy
Yeah but it would have been nice if you saw me walk away with a victory that night.
Mum
You probably would have if that evil witch, Cera and her manager hadn’t stuck their noses in and distracted you.
Stacy
Yeah but I should know better to not let myself get distracted, I’ve been doing this since 2009, that’s five years...
Mum
You heard Tayla scream, and I know how much you care and love her, you were worried that she had been hurt.
Stacy
I guess you’re right...
Mum
I know you were trying to prove to me that you’re a great wrestler Stacy, but you’ve already done that, you’re currently holding the Xcel Championship, you defeated three top competitors to win it and now you’re headlining VoW’s fourth ever Pay-Per-View event. If that doesn’t prove already that you’re one of the best, I don’t know what will...
Stacy
Thanks Mum, I appreciate it...
Mum
You’re my daughter, I’ll always love you and will always support you through everything you do...
Suddenly my attention is diverted towards the door to my hotel, I glance at the clock at the bottom of my laptop screen and it reads ‘11:45PM’.
Stacy
Hang on Mum, somebody is at my door, no idea who it could be at this time...I’ll be back in a second...
Mum
Take your time dear...
I put my half empty glass of wine down on the table next to the laptop and get to my feet before walking across the fluffy cream carpet towards the door. I take hold of the gold doorknob and twist it, opening the door to find Seifer standing there dressed in a pair of burgundy red leather Doc Martin boots, a pair of baggy black denim jeans, a black Cradle of Filth, Preaching to the Perverted T-shirt and a long black leather coat.
Stacy
Seifer...what are you doing here so late? I thought you were going out with Crystal tonight...
Seifer
Yeah and you said you and Tayla where going to join us...did you forget?
Stacy
No, Tayla was pretty exhausted when we got off the plane and said she was going to give you a call and cancel, I guess she must have been so tired she either fell asleep before doing so or forgot, sorry about that...
Seifer
Don’t worry about it, to be honest I was going to say the same about Crystal so she wouldn’t be able to make it either, so if you want we can still have a drink, I’ve brought over a bottle of the Captain...
He lifts up the bottle of Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum he has in his hand.
Stacy
Yeah sure, obviously we’ll have to keep the noise down because Tayla’s fast asleep, and if you don’t mind I’m just finishing talking to my Mum on Skype.
I step aside and let Seifer in before I close the door behind us and we make our way into the lounge area.
Seifer
Hey Mrs S, how are ya?
My mother looks at him with a look of slight confusion on her face as he sits down on the sofa.
Stacy
Mum, this is my friend Seifer I’ve been telling you about...
I then sit down beside him before picking up my glass of wine and taking a sip.
Mum
Oh yes of course, hello Seifer, nice to meet you and I’m very well thank you, but please...call me Marie.
Seifer
Of course, have to say its nice to be able to put a name to a face, she’s talked about you a lot...
Mum
Yeah, she’s talked about you to me a lot too, I guess I have to thank you for looking after her for all these years...
Seifer
I can say its been a pleasure, we have had our bad times but it is nowhere equal to the good. Are you telling her along with me that she deserves to be where she is in VoW?
Mum
Pretty much, but I can understand her disappointment that she didn’t get a victory at the last show when I was there in attendance. You always want to show your parents that you can win...speaking of parents...Stacy’s been telling me that you’ve recently started trying to track down your biological parents?
Stacy
Actually Mum, that’s a bit of a touchy subject at the moment...
Mum
Oh, I’m sorry...
Seifer
No its fine, its a long story, I wont bore you with the details, I will just say its not going well at all...
Mum
I’m sorry to hear that, if you want, I could get in touch with the man who helped me out with finding Stacy, he’s really good and a very close personal friend of mine so I’m sure he wouldn’t mind doing another favour for me, if you want that is. I don’t want to sound intrusive as it really has nothing to do with me, but being a mother who hadn’t seen her daughter in twenty-five years, I know how heart-breaking it is going so long without seeing your child...
Seifer
Well when your mother leaves you on the doorstep of Hell then I cant say if I would know how she would feel. I’m sorry I got too dark there, I guess Stacy was right when she said it was a touchy subject...
He takes a deep breath hanging his head a little.
Seifer
I appreciate the offer but for now I will have to decline the offer, in the future though maybe...
Mum
I understand Seifer, the offer will always be open...
Stacy
Well anyway Mum, we better get going, I’ll talk to you tomorrow okay...
Mum
Yeah sure, don’t let me keep you, bye Stacy, I love you...and bye Seifer, it was nice talking to you...
Stacy
Bye Mum, love you too...
Seifer
Nice talking to you also Marie, have a good night...
I log off of Skype and close the lid of the laptop before placing my wine down, getting up off the sofa and heading into the kitchen and grab a tall empty glass. I then open the fridge and take out a bottle of Vanilla Coca-Cola before bringing them both back over to the sofa. I sit down and place the glass and the bottle in front of where Seifer is sitting before once again picking up my glass of wine.
Stacy
So how have you been then? I take it you haven’t found anything else out about your parents yet?
Seifer
Nothing at all really, well practically not much, there has been one small thing...
Stacy
Well I guess a small thing is better than nothing, what is it?
Seifer
She wasn’t a Canadian, looks like I may be half American. Cant say where in the wide country of America she is from, but she aint Canadian...
Stacy
Wow, that’s actually pretty big, with this information you could go to the National Archives and find out how many American women put their child up for adoption in 1986 from September 1st onwards...that’s only four months so I doubt there would be many either...
Seifer
Already tried, and it wasn’t exactly legal how I was adopted, I was literately the cliché that is, the baby on the doorstep...
Stacy
That’s a pain...well hopefully you’ll find some more information soon...
He nods as we continue chatting away and drinking our alcoholic beverages as the scene fades.
