So there it was. The card to VOW Fate of the Gods. Ace Watson's first PPV at the company, and the biggest match so far. This five man elimination match was a huge oppourtunity for Ace, and he knew it. He spent almost the entire car journey home from taking his girlfriend, Bianca Davis, to the airport so she could go home to California for a little while. Watson wanted to go with her, but training and preparing for this match was too important. He could fly across the country another time.
He pulled his car into the driveway of the apartment he had been renting during VOW's stay in New York, got out, locked it, and went inside the building. Ace figured renting an apartment would be cheaper than staying in a hotel the whole time he was in New York. But now the place felt empty. Bianca was not there anymore, and it seemed when he was around her he did not feel any nerves or worries about anything. But now, with her gone, and the Fate of the Gods match looming round the corner, Ace felt the pressure. He felt the nerves. This match was such a great oppourtunity for the young man. If he squandered it then he did not know if he had the will power to bounce back.
Sure, he had his first VOW win under his belt, but he also had a defeat. The impact he was hoping to make on arrival at VOW wasn't quite as prominent as he had hoped it would be. The five-man elimination match was just so perfect a chance to make his impact and go on to face the Zero Gravity champion that he was not sure if he was ready. Ace had said all these things on Twitter, and on his debut appearance at Breakthrough 25, and he really did not want them to come back to haunt him. Ace had created a bar for himself, a certain amount of hype. People were interested to see what he could do, and he felt he had showed them that, but only to an extent. Ace knew he could do better.
----- AW -----
The apartment matched Ace's idea of what a typical New York apartment would look like. Some basic wall art, clean and sleek looking furniture and black leather sofas. One of which, Ace was now sat lazily on. He ran his hand through his dark brown hair and started tapping his foot impatiently on the wooden floor. A sign of his nervousness. Well one of them. Soon he would start fidgeting, tidying things in the apartment that were already tidy, and turn on his TV to a really bad reality TV show. Ace needed to leave the house before that happened.
Watson arrived at the Manhattan Center with an hour later. Maybe if he scoped out the venue for the match he could feel more at ease. Get used to the surroundings.
Stood outside the main entrance he looked around the area. Vehicles ranging in all shapes and sizes passed him slowly. Evening traffic in New York was always a pain. Ace spotted a Five Guys restaurant across the street, he had never been there before and wondered what all the fuss was about. But he wasn't hungry now, not for food anyway.
One thing Ace did not expect on his visit to the Manhattan Center was to be spotted by fans. Which is exactly what happened. Two tourist-looking type people had walked round the corner and spotted Ace stood outside the entrance, then ran to him calling his name.
Fan 1: Ace! We've been following your career for years! So glad you finally came back!
Fan 2: Yeah! Congrats on the win at Breakthrough!
Ace was slightly startled at the fans arrival, as he had yet to have an encounter with a VOW fan outside of the arena yet. Especially ones that had supposedly been following his wrestling career for some time.
Ace: Wow, really? And thanks, I'm pretty proud of that match.
Fan 2: We're backing you to win at Fate of the Gods, obviously!
Ace: You're about the only ones then, everyone seems to be seeing me as an outside chance, but are backing that Behringer guy. But honestly I know nothing about him.
Fan 1: Well we know you can win it. Don't suppose you have time for a picture, do you?
Ace: Yeah, of course.
Ace smiled, this surprise encounter really seemed to help his mental state. He posed for the picture with the two, then after a few minutes of chat about Ace's career before VOW, they parted ways. There was a confidence in the way Ace looked again. The way he walked was a little taller, his voice slightly louder and his arrogant smile was prouder. He probably looked a little weird as he walked through New York in the early evening looking how he did, but he did not care. Ace Watson had a goal. That goal was the Zero Gravity Championship. Because, his mindset had changed now, he wasn't seeing this match the same way as he was before. This match was a step towards success at Visionaries of Wrestling, a step that he would take proudly and confidently. There was victory on the horizon for Ace, he just had to reach out and grab it.
