TMZ Live report at Dan DiStoner Press Conference.
Seated at a table near the podium are Ryan Omega, Dan DiStoner, Johnny Diamond, and Greg "Chino" Monto. Three other men clad in suits stand nearby. DiStoner leans over and whispers to Monto and Omega, before standing up and walking towards the podium.
DiStoner is dressed in his usual stonewashed jeans and an old Revolution X shirt. Wearing sunglasses to hide his ever bloodshot eyes. He approaches the microphone and taps it a few times to make sure it is working.
DiStoner: Thank you all for coming. As I stand here and look at my friends seated at the table in front of you. I look at all the things I have accomplished in my career. And it makes it hard to say goodbye. But due to circumstances out of my control. I am here today to announce to the world that my career is over.
I stand humbly before you as Daniel Kaiser. But I ave graced the ring as Dan DiStoner for the better part of the last six years.
Tho by many standards my career has been short. I have accomplished so much. I won four World Championships, and have held countless other titles. As a founding member of my former organization NWA. My fellow superstars voted me as a member of their hall of fame as well.
Many of you know what happened over a year ago. The night I won my final championship I was shot three times by an in-ring rival known as Nick William Ambrose. And was left there in a hallway in a pool of my own blood to die. Which was almost the result. And to think for Mr Ambrose to only recieve a three year sentence for such a heinous act.
Anyways a few weeks ago I attempted to make an in-ring comeback here in V.O.W. as a favor to My old friend Ryan Omega. I was scheduled against another old pal of mine Mr Seifer Black. The morning after the match I woke up and began to choke up blood. So as anyone else would I consulted my personal physician. And had him meet me at the hospital to run some tests.
My physician Dr. Ellis Dee did several x-rays and to my horror he found the problem. The unfound bullet from the shooting had been found. It was beginning to puncture through my right lung. So when Dr. Ellis Dee informed me that if I continued to perform, I would run the risk of fully puncturing the lung, and possibly die as a result.
I left the hospital. And for a few hours I just walked around the streets of Columbus. Taking it all in. As I walked I made 3 phone calls. To the three men seated at the table before you. One to Ryan Omega, one to Chino, and one to the great Johnny Diamond. The next day we were sitting in Ryan's office. And I told my closest friends in this business of my intention to retire.
At that moment it was like the weight of a mack truck, or in our business the weight of Andre The Giant was lifted off my shoulders. After shaking each mans hand I gave my friends each a hug. And then I made the arrangements for this press conference.
To the fans. Whether of not you cheered me, or booed me. I was always honored to be able to perform for you. It was the words of the great Vince McMahon "The fans in this business, will either make you. Or they will break you". And in my opinion no truer words have ever been spoken. In my eyes. NWA and VOW have the greatest fans around.
To my peers. People like Matthew Robinson, Chase Michaels Jason and Edward Myers, Seifer Black, Chelsea Armstrong, Kyle Congdon, Chris Storm, and countless others I leave you with these simple words. "Its not what you are made of, Its how you adapt to your circumstances." And we have all had to adapt in this sport of kings. All My love and respect to each of you.
Today January 5th 2015 I announce to the world that my career is over. I end it now with No regrets. Ladies and Gentleman, what can I say. It's been a blast. Thank you!!!
With that DiStoner walks away from the podium, and out the side exit of the ballroom.
